The Hawaii Public Housing Authority (HPHA) held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new affordable housing complex for senior citizens on School Street on January 12, 2024. This marks a significant moment as HPHA leadership joined hands with Governor Josh Green, M.D., Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi, representatives from the State Senate, the State House, the Honolulu City Council, developer partner Highridge Costa, and HPHA’s partners to commence the construction of the first 250-unit affordable housing tower.
Executive Director Hakim Ouansafi expressed his excitement about the new development, saying, “Once completed, this sacred land will provide an additional 800 units for senior citizens, ensuring affordable housing for a lifetime.”
